Many venues charge a fee for photography (and by paying you are probably signing up to limited use agreement) as thet themselves sell photos and see self photography as cutting into their revenue. It is not a situation unique to the UK and provided the fee is reasonable I have no objection to it.

The whole point of a 'selfie' is to ask as a record that you were at a particular point and will most likely end up on Farcebook, Twatter or Instaounce. To argue it is not a photographer shows sings of insanity and the individual should be detained under the Mental Health Act.
