Just about to list a bike on eBay ...

Do I put the original (barely used) tires on it and save the Conti Gatorskins that cost the best part of £60 ... and the Marathon Pluses that cost £50? I will use them again, but is it better to throw them in with the bike to make a sale more likely?

And the pannier rack? Leave it on, make it commuter friendly? Or keep it for another bike?

I'm taking a break from cycling for the moment so don't need them, but at what point am I throwing money away?

Pedals? It's a minefield

definitely leave a set of pedals on the bike. if you say you will use the spare tires again just keep them for yourself . As for the pannier rack list it on ebay if it does not sell then through it in with the bike

I think extras might help to sell it, but probably won't make much difference to the price. If you think you're going to end up buying the bits again it probably makes sense to hang on to them. Alternatively you could sell the bike without the tyres etc, and offer them as extras by negotiation over the sale price?

if it's a commuter style bike, I'd leave the rack on unless it's blingtastic tubus ti or whatever as the new owner will likely need one and just knock £40 off what he wants to pay. Tyres, not so much so long as it's good adequate tyres to sell

Am looking at a local Brompton on fleaby -slightly pricey but local. But it doesn't have mudguards which'll cost me a hundred quid by the time I've bought all the fixings and the pain of fitting em. so will likely leave it - which is similar calculation to what many buyers make.

That said, stuff left on is often worth less than it's worth so to speak

Keep everything you may use again. In my experience I have sold bikes with racks, mudguards, lights etc. They will not add anything to the price (with the exception of selling a kitted out tourer) and you will invariably end up buying same items again.
The important thing on e bay is numerous good quality photos. Honest & detailed description. Reply swiftly to queries and be prepared to package bike if buyer wants to arrange courier (can get empty bike box from halfords etc)
