Sending a bike in the post/courier

I have sold a bike to another member on here and now need to try and sort out sending it to him!

Does anyone have any advice or tips for the best way to send a bike in the UK. I need to send it from Fleet (Hampshire) to Manchester. I also need to find a decent way of packaging it; is it just best to scrounge an old bike box from the LBS and use a bit of bubble wrap inside?

@Broadside normally local halfords or bike shop give out boxes foc . i always use radiator pipe foam cable tied around the tubes ,stays and forks . then just use some more cardboard to fill around the easily damaged parts .
