You might think that, but you've only got to see the footage of Tom Pryce

Who?

hitting a track marshall at nearly 200mph and having his head pretty much taken off by the fire extinguisher the marshall had been carrying,

Nasty! I never said that accidents wouldn't still happen

or the footage of David Purley trying (and failing) to rescue a still - conscious Roger Williamson

Who? I haven't heard of any of these people! Should I leave the country now?

from a burning car a few years earlier to realise that anyone who says the element of danger lent some excitement to the sport is, well, talking bollocks.

I'll admit it!! I just watched it for the crashes! (which were always interesting), but I still stand by my observation that after a certain point, it did start to get a bit boring. That was a few years back now though.

Oh, the crashes can be interesting enough - I don't think there's an F1 fan alive who wouldn't say that - but what's changed for the better is that they're no longer carting off three or four drivers a season in body bags. That's why the improved safety is a good thing.

I never considered it boring during the Schumacher domination years. There were plenty of good races then as well and he didn't always win. I felt privileged to be watching someone who was/is clearly one of the greatest of all time at his absolute peak. If the Ferrari was the best car of that period, as it often was, then it was the hard work of an exceptional team of people led by Jean Todt and Ross Brawn that made it possible and it wasn't their fault that McLaren and Williams were incapable of competing at the Ferrari/Schumacher level on any kind of consistent basis.

All sports go through periods were they have been dominated by a particular team/competitor.

Hearing the German national anthem every time got boring, though I never tire of listening to "Italia" - it just makes you smile!

Indeed, I love Italia as well and I have often considered if Schumacher were to win another race, now as a Merc driver, it would just seem so wrong seeing him standing there and listening to the German anthem and no Italia to follow.
