Good.

A vulnerable road user mown down by a not-as-vulnerable road user. Now use the same logic on vehicle drivers that hit peds/cyclists.

Balance needed there methinks.

Or perhaps a bit of respect for the victims plight....Mowing down someone is bad in itself, but to flee the scene is unforgivable.

What a prat
I know that carpark I go kayaking from there
Aye, I'm also reasonably familiar with it. There's quite a steep approach either side on the chine banks so I'd bet he was going at some lick as well. Arse.

No one's defending the guy. He fully deserves punishment.
I just wonder why dangerous/ murderous driving so often seems receive risible sentences, or non at all such as this piece of spillage, widely discussed on here, who got off scot free after causing the death of a cyclist (Warning, Daily Mail Alert).

As CP rightly says above, the same level of punishment dished out to the idiot in the OP needs to be more widely applied to protect all vulnerable road users that's all.

Whether you agree or disagree with the verdict, they cannot imprison someone for a charge with which they have been found innocent of.

No they can't but it doesn't make it right. No possibility of appeal either which is equally shameful. Don't want to derail the thread with this story so will leave it there.

I believe -

If it were in any way practical -

That everyone should have a taster session of what it's like to be a car driver/cyclist/motorcyclist.

Those who can't drive any vehicle should do sit ins/on's of cars & m'bikes & all drivers should cycle through a town or city at some point.

Although it wont stop a T0$$ER like the one in the OP's quote, it might show us all a thing or 2 about ourselves.

Yes - I know it's not practical - just dreaming but are all cyclist/pedestrians - Bikers/HGV drivers/car drivers/bus drivers as pure as the driven ?

I write from the viewpoint of someone who is qualified & experienced at all of these things - although as a fairly newly returning cyclist not as much so.

And yes I will shut up now.

Good sentence for doing this but the guy who left me in the road after hitting me only got a driver awareness course and had to pay compensation, he did exactly the same as this prat did but in a car ! Justice needs to be sorted if they are giving harsh punishment for cyclists, but a pat on the back sentance for someone in a motor vehicle !
