We have now been in our property a year now and are waiting to go 'live' on the exchange list. Hubster is determined to look at the private market too.
If anyone hears of a private landlord in Cornwall, Devon, Hampshire, Somerset etc (down that way somewhere) who has no qualms about letting to a self employed couple with 3 dogs on a long term basis, please let us know. We are looking in earnest now and would be able to view on a Sunday or Monday as we have to get around the dialysis appointments.

We have just bought a wee caravan so that getting down and viewing is easier for us. We can stay on a site rather than keep kennelling the dogs and driving down without them. Living in the caravan temporarily is not an option as its a 'freedom caravan' and they are tiny things. Brilliant but tiny. We only have a 1.4l car and don't want to trade to a huge one for pulling purposes.

I don't blame you.

I remember when I got a bigger car, it didn't bring me any more luck with the ladies.

I am not sure the best way but with 3 dogs you will put off most landlords. So perhaps a line of approach may be somehow to find farm workers houses. They will be much more open to having dogs and you will get somewhere with a bit of space for the caravan too.
Lots of farms seem to be cutting down the staff levels so may have houses around.

Does your work count as a rural occupation? If so there are also protected agricultural worker houses.

@Saluki - what about National Trust properties? http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lettings/

They look interesting and may be suitable.
Have contacted them but there is nothing suitable (price range wise) at the moment. Thank you, I have bookmarked them for continual searching.

We let out our house in Plymouth. The current tenant contacted us the other week asking if we objected to her getting a dog. Mrs Dave didn't, but I did.

My father in law thinks she'll be moving on to a bigger house around Christmas, then we'll go in and install a new kitchen, bathroom and fully carpet and redecorate the place, and no, I don't want 3 dogs in my house!

The dogs may well be a stumbling block.

As a landlord I want simple and easy.

If you google "doorsteps letting agency, plymstock" that's who we use. They seem decent to both parties.

By Xmas we will probably only have 2 dogs

Interestingly, when I was living abroad, I let my house out to a family for a year. When I came home I had to re-paper pretty much everywhere as their 2 bloody kiddies had coloured bloomin' everywhere with their felt tips and crayons. My Dad was forever round to unblock the loo where a child had put a teddy/fire engine toy/load of lego/plasticine down.
When I went away again I let my home for a year to a couple with 2 German Shepherds and a Jack Russell. My Dad only had to go around once in a year to give them a hand when strong winds blew the fence down. I came home and didn't have to re-decorate.

If I was letting my home out nowadays, I know that I would allow pets but not kids! Sadly the recession happened, Hubby made redundant and I broke my arm so we sold our house as we were trying to live on about £70 a week.

That's a real shame for both of you Saluki.

Hope that things are much brighter for you both now & good luck.
