Shared calendar program

Can anyone recommend a shared calendar program in Windows (other than Google Calendar or Outlook, that is?) - preferably one that doesn't require internet access to use? I'm looking for something that allows people on the LAN to open the calendar, add to it, see what others are up to, maybe add notes etc etc.

If it was freeware, so much the better! :becool:

Bookmarked - just curious

Is there a reason you don't want to use Google? I use Google but I use it with Thunderbird and lightning, so Google is merely a repository. I mean you could use something like Sunbird with Google effectively working as a back end server. Other than that I don't know of any now.

The 'what if' part of me is a bit wary of purely internet-based calendars in case we lose connection which is why I wondered about stand-alone versions.

I don't really know enough about the different sorts to know what's good and what to avoid.

If it turned out a web-based solution was far and away the best free alternative, I wouldn't be averse to it.

Understood. I don't know of any that don't need a dedicated service, such as Exchange, Small Business Server or Caldav which would need to go on a server pc on the LAN. How you do that is beyond my experience. One of the advantages of Google calendars is that you can access via your Android smartphone as well. I guess you'd have to assess how often and how long you're likely to lose internet access for and offset that against the complexity of setting up and maintaining a LAN based solution.

that's not internet based

Sorry

I think I am wrong insomuch as it is dependent on being on an Exchange network and that's not what you wanted.

sorry
