Sheffield - Vote on Moorhead/Pinstone Street junction

The council have a vote on the Sheffield.gov website regarding the junction in Sheffield City Centre; with regards to traffic approaching Furnival Gate from Pinstone Street. At present traffic is left-turn only from Pinstone Street - not a big problem as there is a roundabout a few yards away which facilitates a 180 degree turn and travel back up Furnival Gate.

There is also a cycle lane which facilitates a right turn (though unusually, often crossing a green man phase of the pedestrian crossing)

Drivers coming down from Charter Square cannot continue along Furnival Gate, they must turn left into Pinstone Street.

The current system means that, for pedestrians it is much safer - traffic ONLY approaches the crossings on the corners of the junction from one given way - meaning more frequent green man phases and less likelihood of someone "nipping across" and not seeng a car coming from another direction.

Drivers HATE it and do everything they can, including driving around traffic islands and turning around in, and exiting, a one way street in the wrong direction.

The junction could do with some improvements. These being more preventative measures to block illegal turns. NOT opening up into a standard junction which would offer much more potential for accidents especially with pedestrians but also cyclists, who have a clear right filter lane which would be lost into a mess of a right-turn lane with buses pulling out from the stops just before the junction.

The car lobby are sure to be casting their votes to allow a system which flows reasonably well, to be allowed to clog up with cars, and encourage more car traffic into the middle of City Centre across a very busy main pedestrian route through the centre.

I also mentioned "Make the traffic island more pronounced to physically prevent the current, common illegal passage of cars from Charter Square to Arundel Gate"

A quick bump even though I'm not from Sheffield. Sounds important to vote
