Shimano 7 speed shifters

I think I know this but just wanted to double check there are no hidden quirks with this.
So, 1991 Dawes Galaxy, Shimano 3x7. Currently it has indexed down tube shifters. I dont mind that but Ms Teamfixed is less keen.
I have found some Shimano RSX 3x7 ergo shifters.
Am I right in assuming that Shimano 7 speed is universally compatible? (considering the time period)

I'm not sure about those specific shifters, but I volunteer at a community bike workshop where we rebuild and renovate loads of old bikes and we never get any compatibility issues with older Shimano 7-speed systems.

I would be very surprised (but ready to be proved wrong) if it would cause any problems.

Thanks, I guess the RSX shifters must be from about the same era anyway as the 91 Galaxy.

Pre 1997 Dura-Ace was different, but otherwise all 7 speed stuff should play nicely together.
