Shimano M545 SPD Pedals

can anyone confirm that these are ok with non spd/ normal shoes/ trainers.
i'm getting a ss mtb for bridleway and towpath riding with my normal spd shoes but may want to ride across town in trainers :biggrin: occaisionally.

Are these the double sided one spd one normal pedal ?
If so they are fine, I have them and wear trainers when pootling with the child and child seat.
 
The clip protrudes above the level of the cage - you 'can' ride them with flats, but I find the platform to be slippy due to the clip sticking up into your shoe sole and therefore I would certainly suggest thick soles if you do.

I occasionally risk flat shoes for a quick trip to the shops or so, but I really don't them comfortable when riding without spd shoes.
 
I have the cheaper version of the M545 the M424's and they're OK with normal shoes, they're not ideal but not restrictive to spds either. With SPDs (mine anyway) the spindle/ cleat is directly below the ball of my foot, with normal shoes my feet tend to slide forward slightly so the spindle/popup is under the arch of my foot.
