Shimano Ultegra chainset recall

I happen to have one of the affected Ultegra chainsets in the bits box. I don't know how or when I acquired it, but I probably bought it secondhand for a project that never happened before the recall was announced. Anyone know what the terms of the recall are? Can I just take it into my local Shimano dealer and get it sent back in exchange for a new one or do I need to show I've owned it from new?

You give it to a Shimano dealer / your LBS if they're doing the recall. It's then checked and either returned to you as deemed 'safe' or replaced. Replacement isn't guaranteed. We had 15 Ultegra / Dura-Ace checked and one failed.

No receipt is needed.

The shop where I bought mine from asked people who brought their chainset in, what they wanted as an outcome. If they said replaced they sent it back and they were all replaced.

It's an old recall, still valid. Cranks fail due to various 'conditions' exposure, so if yours hasn't been on a bike in ages, or it's used in good weather you are fine. I suspect it's cranks used in all sorts of conditions regular that fail. They shouldn't fail. I suspect most of the cranks with a potential issue to fail will last a very long time and never fail.

Mine cranks were 11 speed Dura Ace mainly used in the dry. They appeared to be a perfect nick but I used to get a click noise from the left hand crank. I swopped lots of things round and the noise was always present, mates riding could tell which side it was coming from. Told the shop and they sent it back minus the rings. I then got a message from the shop Shimano wanted to know what size the rings and a new chainset and rings were sent back.
I did miss a trick though mine rings were 52/36 I should have said they were 50/34 then I could have a climbing set.
