Shin splints?

So I’m training for a big ride in a few months and trying to increase my mileage / exertion.
Today I did a 53 mile ride with 3,700ft elevation. Max elevation 700ft. Suffice to say it was quite tough for me.
This of course was partly down to the fact that I ride fixed gear.
A modest 70” which was probably a little high for this terrain but not ridiculous.

After about 30 mins of stretching and rest I realised I had an odd pain like I’d been kicked in the lower shin.
It’s only on my right leg as I probably favour this one.
As I type this 4 hours later it’s already improving.
Have I just overdone it? I do have a tendency to ride ‘toe down’ but to be fair, I’ve been doing this for the best part of 30 years with no probs.
The only difference today was I went further and harder than usual.
Any help much appreciated.

I had it a few times when I did a lot of Karate..it usually got better quite quickly.
Though it's usually from constant impact?
Running ,or in my case banging your feet down hard..

It could also be how you are cycling - I use to get shin pain when running. It is easy to confuse shin pain with shin splints.

I found a lot of issues with my running form and I have to say I have fixed that - shin pain has gone away
