Shoe shopping rant

I absolutely despise shoe shopping, makes me extremely grumpy! Can never find any that fit, if they feel comfortable in the shop and I make the mistake of buying them, they then cripple my feet about 15 minutes after walking around, by which time they can't be returned!

I now try to buy shoes online from the rare retailers who actually deign to make a size 9 wide for women! I can then try them on at home, procrastinate at length and 9 times out of 10 return! This has now become an even more thankless task thanks to orthotics from my physio so even many of my shoes that were comfortable no longer are

I've had a evil of a job finishing cycling shoes too, have bought and returned 5 pairs now I think and I have just reordered the first pair I returned which I think are the best of a bad bunch...which were a fiver less than the first time round. Came from CRC so I have a year to procrastinate if required!

Often if I do find shoes, trainers that do fit, I'll buy more than one pair in the same or different colour...however the second pair are never as good as the first, or the bloody manufacturers discontinue them or subtly change the design!

I'll never be a woman who spends £300 on a pair of designed shoes!

Anyone else think shoe shopping is the task of satan?!?

No, but then I'm a bloke. My wife struggles a bit too, but then she has a friend that definitely doesn't as she had over 80 pairs at the last count. Or maybe she has so many because they don't fit very well either. Dunno.
For me most worn are workboots - same as the last pair (employer provided),and the pair before that, etc.
Other shoes seem to last me for years, but then I'd rather be barefoot and wear shoes as little as possible anyway. Especially after a day wearing the boots.

At 6 - 2" she is taller than me & takes anything from size 9 to a mens 10 if say an adidas trainer shoe.
Miss Centurion does the same online order, try, send back scheme as yourself, normally through tall girls that stock her sizes.

She is lucky to have quite small feet for her height actually!
Mine probably aren't a true nine, but they are wide like a platypus!

I am a size 7 1/2 which is a pain. 7s are too small and size 8 feel like boats on my feet. Even if I put an insole in. I buy Clarkes and done with. Trying to get 'nice' going out shoes is a right PITA, I never buy online but have been known to try on nearly every pair, in my size, in the shop and then go out empty handed and in a grump and needing cake in a hurry.

I feel your pain.

Clarks do some 9 wides, but they seem to stock one of each of the few styles and then discontinue for ever more, bar stewards

Sure they are not going to win any fashion awards but she says they are plenty wide enough and comfy.

Where'd you get 'em?
I don't think I can quite stretch to bespoke shoes, but would be nice
