Shoes and cleat fixing

Seriously, re Shimano pedal with two bolt cleat system: Yesterday I struggled to cleat in on my L side (my usual side for uncleating). I admit to occasional simple maintenance routines - chaincleaner and then spray of a light lube. Pedals have been used for at least 15,000 kms. Time for replacement or a prefessional overhaul?

Pedals last for ages. Cleats not so much.

Metal SPD cleats last for years

Indeed. They outlast shoes easy.
They DO. I have transferred them a few times between shoes.

Wear is so rarely a problem with metal SPD cleats that I had forgotten that they can eventually get worn out. I had some finally go last year and replaced them with new ones. It was immediately obvious that the old ones HAD been very worn once I felt (and heard) the improvement with the new ones.

We are potentially talking years of heavy use with metal cleats vs months with plastic.
