Shorter no 3277

Just picked up this Shorter to compliment the Aende from last week .

One owner who paid just over £570 for it at the age of 15 in 1978 but hasn't used it for the last 25+ years .

Full lightweight spec ie drilled rear dropouts , bottom bracket shell , Royce chainwheel , Ambrosia Montreal sprint rims laced to campagnolo record large flange hubs show it's time trial pedigree .

Nice patina and load's of history what could be better oh and it's got a wide range rear cog set ....

I paid about £200 for a heavily discounted carlton criterium in 1980, £570 for a hand-built machine would probably be about right (I also bought a triumph vitesse convertible the same year. That also cost me £200, the significance of this is - I think I'm getting old)

While we're talking historical purchases I paid £350 for a new fully spec'd up Mercian in I think 1985. Might even have the receipt somewhere.

Just had a quick play tonight and found a set of suitable clincher wheel set to replace the tubs and sprints .

The rear mech is a 1977 patent .

And now the bad news the gorgeous head set has a cracked bottom cup .

Current plans are to replace the headset assembly , fit a wider ratio rear block and service the bottom bracket and wheel bearings .

Then do some rides with it and see what it rides like as my initial test ride was done on rather cracked 30 yr old tubulars .
