Hi. Friend of mine (good cyclist and knows his way around a bike) went rinse this today - loved it but a shade small however recommended it to me suggesting it's beautifully set up and all in very very good order for age. Its steel and has a chorus/record groupset and he thinks it's likely mid 90s Super Thron.

Any idea of value and it's virtues as a regular ride?

Thanks

Difficult to say without several close up pics but £700 ish.
A steel frame in my experience is lovely to ride.

Thanks Spiderweb - I know nothing about 'vintage' bikes however believe this is a Colnago Decor (Columbus Thron Super tubing). The frame etc is in very good order - only the odd very small slight and the chrome is excellent. Whilst I'm buying to ride I would like the safety net of at least getting money back if I don't get on with it. PS - I can have it for £400

From the photo it looks like a rather lovely, well looked-after mid 90's Colnago Decor in the art deco colour scheme. The top tube looks crimped, right? A round top tube and it might be a Classic, worth a bit less. With all-Campagnolo in spring I reckon @Spiderweb's valuation is pretty spot on. At this time of year, maybe a bit less. Still, it's a Colnago so should be ridden and enjoyed and it will ride beautifully

The frame looks well preserved, and I'm guessing the Chorus shifters are original, which puts it in the mid-90s. I personally really like the fit of Campagnolo ergo shifters and particularly the thumb shift.

Once it's yours (and definitely go for it!) you can email Laura Paolini (laura@colnago.com) with the serial number (usually stamped on the rear dropouts) and some photos and she can usually provide more information.

Many thanks, really helpful and cheers for the advice and email heads up. I only really started cycling this year and picked up a Felt F85 for £230 which has been great for my first 4000km but I wonder if I'd one day regret not owning/riding the Colnago

Buy it and ride it don't just sit and think about it
I would buy it in a heartbeat if l were in your position....with only one reason not to, and that is if it does not fit you.:cuppa:

Reminds me of my favourite handle bar tape on any bike, so it is a buy (and polish of it didn't fit)

Regarding the tape, anyone know where I can buy such a monstrosity?

The frame does look quite large. If that’s you in the pic you look small as far as I can tell. Lovely bike.
Haha - no I'm not the lovely 5'3" lady in the pic. I'm 5'10" previous owner was 5'9" and my pal, for whom it was a shade small is 5'11 and longer legged than me.

Thanks, T

Some more pics.
I have it on loan for a few days so will get someone to confirm its in good mechanical order.
Only negatives, none significant/obvious.
- a few very small (3mm) individual paint bubbles on frame (not grouped)
- 1 sqcm of silver paint peel on top tube (covered (with lifted paint) with insulation tape)
- few small rust flecks on front fork. Most other will simply polish off.
