Should I go microwave free and buy an air fryer?

Is it acceptable to cut a baking potato in half, either length ways or side ways to make it cook faster, either in an air fryer, a conventional oven, or a microwave. Or it that frowned upon as not really doing the right thing? 🤔 😏

I've done it and it works just fine. FWIW I cooked it cut side down.

Am I in the minority by not taking the shoots (not chutes as I've just looked it up) off baking potatoes before cooking them? Sometimes I do, but sometimes I like to leave them on to see what happens to them during the cooking process. Yes, I know simple things please simple minds, but I just like doing unconventional things!😏 😬

I haven't tried 'sloppy' food yet. I have plenty of oven foil to line the drawer, so I'll line it before filling it with such as beans, soup, veggie broth etc.
Don't use foil, you're going to burn yourself.
Use an oven dish that fits your a.f. instead.
Be careful when removing the items!

I use foil or baking paper depending on what I am cooking. You need to be extremely careful in that if loose, foil and paper can blow into the fan thus causing a fire.
I suspect that is the main cause of air fryer fires, more so than failed fans.

I'm off to Tesco soon. I've just measured the pan thingy in my air fryer. It's 8.5 inches by 8.5 inches. I'll try and find a Pyrex, or Pyrex style dish measuring a maximum of 7.5 by 7.5 inches.😉

If you’re going to use a dish that’s such a neat fit, I recommend buying, or making, a silicone sling for it so that you can get it back out easily.

Maybe I'd be better looking for a maximum of 6.5 by 6.5 inches dish.😉

use a small cake tin/roasting pan/similar, no coating, just plain metal

if you use pyrex/ceramic, they're heavier and don't conduct heat as well, not sensible in an air fryer

or get some foil containers, as used by takeaway establishments, if there's one you frequent they might give you a few free

but it's rather wasteful compared to a simple tin

pies, quiche, sausage rolls, etc are going to be a lot quicker if you preheat them in the MW for a minute or two, then bung them in the oven/AF to sort out the pastry. Shouldn't need more than ten minutes in either. :okay:

Who are these peeps who cook only 1 jkt spud at a time in the oven/af 🤔 Seems mighty wasteful and inefficient
3 or 4 spuds in microwave for roughly 12 mins at various power levels, coat them in old engine oil then transfer
them to a (5mins) preheated gas oven, cook for a further 18 mins gas mark 6-7, that's 2 days dinner sorted 😉
