Another firmly in the 'go!' camp. Really, the risk is absolutely tiny. Wish I could go to Turkey! Go, and have a great time. You will.

I swam across it last year, it's amazing and if you're lucky you might see a turtle.

Blimey! That's ace.

Did you do the paragliding from Babadag? Partner and I did it, she timed the flight as we were up for ~45 minutes due to the direction of the wind (into the mountains, thus causing an updraft) and that's an experience I would like to have again.

My daughter did it as a birthday present, she loved it! It looks amazing.

The only thing I'd add to this is to be mindful of local customs and avoid offending people. I've travelled a little in middle eastern countries and in other countries where western dress particularly for women is inappropriate. I felt very self-conscious and uncomfortable in a bikini in Egypt for example, and in these days of heightened tension I wouldn't wear that again there. We are guests in other peoples' countries when we travel, I think it's important to be careful not to offend, no matter what our fellow tourists do.

Just my thoughts.

We're off to Turkey (Marmaris) in the middle of August and while we had reservations after what happened in Tunisia, my wife and I have made a decision to go with our two year old.

I've never been to Turkey before and I'm looking forward to seeing another new country. And you may think I'm naive but my feeling is that I worry more for my safety in Glasgow City centre on a Saturday night than I do when I'm abroad. And as mentioned above, the most dangerous thing is the transfer to your resort.

At the end of the day, you do what you think is right.

Guests but also paying guests! Their economy mostly depends on tourism, how can they frown on clothing that isn't offensive?

On current stats you're more likely to die in a car crash on the way to the airport than be killed by terrorists anywhere in the world.

The question is, will you enjoy the holiday?

Check your travel insurance for cover. There have been some exceptions made for Tunisia.

Yes paying guests but still guests. I've lived in a number of tourist-focussed places and locals end up resenting the tourists, despite acknowledging their dependence on them. A little sensitivity from the tourists, especially when culturally it's difficult, would go a long way and is also more likely to see you the tourist get better treatment.

I think it would be nice to go to Turkey. Yes, there is a bit of a contretemps nearby, but next year it may be less safe or impossible, and you may miss an opportunity. Turkey always seems to manage to stay out of these situations. But sensitivity to the views of others is always a positive trait in those who travel. Had I the money and time, I would go. (But, if I have the money and time, I'll be more likely to go to Cuba-more local for me less plane travel, which I detest.)
