Actually, they admitted they were very busy, lots of new bikes needing set up, lots of services etc and the mechanic admitted that new bikes take precedence. I'm just a little concerned that they had a quick look at my bike and thought, 'it'll do, not as much profit in that one, lets move on to the next bike'...[/quote]

That's what I'd be thinking.

When I get the chance I will get booked on the Edinburgh bike coop course again

Do they still do the wheel building course? I'd like to do that.

I'm lucky - the other half doesn't mind me doing it in the flat. That said, whilst we're on the third floor it's got a huge open plan living area (yes, it's not a new build :becool:) plus a balcony that I can throw stuff out onto. She get's narked if it's still a tip come 10pm mind, but that's understandable when she's fighting with toolboxes trying to make her sandwiches

Ha ha! Double-entendre-tastic!

GrahamG if someone reads that post without reading any of the prior posts on this thread, they'd think you're a right mucky skipper!

I got my bike back last night from LBS. Now £115 lighter in the wallet but with a bike that once again runs (and looks) like new. Worth every penny.

I've got a really mucky, Viz-tainted mind but I still can't see what you've seen in GrahamG's post ! I'd better go and watch a few Carry On's and get myself back up to speed again.

It would seem my suspicions were correct. Cycling home tonight (mostly uphill)I was getting the same clanking from the area of the bottom bracket as I was getting before the service. This was despite me mentioning that I suspected my BB was on the way out. Just before I picked it up I phoned to check the bike was ready. I asked if the BB needed replaced but they sounded a bit surprised that I asked. I have a feeling that they never even checked it. Oh and the saddle height was completely differemt when I got it back (not a problem really, but a niggle) and a bolt was missing from one of my light brackets.

Oh well. Time to look at re-booking that maintenance course!

Time to take your computer into the garage, or your bike into the study!

I am always amazed when I hear of folk working on their bikes indoors. I know how much mess I make outside, there is no way I would risk raking it inside. Maybe I'm just a mucky pup!

I've seen the site before, looks good, but as I have the one bike (I know, I know!) and I need it for the commute, I'd hate to fiddle and muck it up. That's why I'm keen to go on the course, where there is some back up. Then I'm sure I'd be more confident.

I've got no choice living in a flat - the bike has to be worked on indoors !

Just put newspaper down underneath it when it's on the workstand, or use one of those plastic sheets you lay down to protect the carpet / furniture when you're painting.

Over two years of bike ownership and tinkering / servicing indoors and not a dirty mark anywhere to show for it.

Come on big Dave, stop being a wussy. Get your sh!t together, and start on it. Get another bike too.

Do I get a new bike or a POV.1 though?

It would be nice to have another bike. Who knows maybe next year. The Sirrus Elite does look like it would do the job....

Get the bike of course, that's for you. The video camera is only for the rest of us to enjoy your cycling videos, and you already do great ones with your Archos. Just don't stop alright!
