Should my notifications count be upto date?

This is a curious enquiry that will sound like a moan, but really isnt!
I think this used to work fine; but recently the count [red box by the bell icon] lags behind the actual list of unread not'ions. see screenshot for example:

I got a 'red 3' stuck there for a while, but it disappeared. Others have had this too, but time limited.

It’s usually caused by unread watched posts or likes that are subsequently moderated into the bin.

Wait until there is some visible content in the list, show all, mark read. That usually fixes it.
