Should their insurance pay for my fuel used while car being repaired?

Hi Folks, this is my first ever non-cycling thread on here... don't all shout at me because it's about one of those nasty car thingys!

I have just received my car back from the bodyshop after being hit from behind in the recent snow.

The other party admitted fault and the repairs were carried out under her insurance.

The only bodyshop offered to me were a Wrexham outfit, and they picked up my vehicle and returned it to my offices in Wallasey (driven, not on the back of a truck).
I've just checked my fuel gauge and they've left it with only vapour in the tank, so I'm now out of pocket to the tune of a 70+ mile round trip, whatever they used over the 4 days it was in the shop, and the equivalent wear and tear that would cause.

Would it be worth pursuing this with her insurance company, as surely any out of pocket expenses arising from the incident should be covered even if we are only talking approx £30?

I'd be very grateful for any advice offered.

Well, they won't have used much while it was in the bodyshop, presumably, and a 70 mile round trip is gonna be £15 on fuel tops, surely?
As for 70 miles worth of wear and tear, sheesh!:stop:
Claim for it if you must, but for the hassle involved I don't think I'd bother.

yep, just document it as an out of pocket expense. 70 miles @ 40p per mile = £28.00
dont forget to add an other costs such as taxis you have used whilst your car was off the road, or if they didn't give you a courtesy car you can claim for loss of access to a vehicle, say £30 per day.

I think you'll be lucky to get this out of them and for the value of 70 miles fuel, possibly isn't worth the extra grief.

Assuming your car is petrol and you get 30 mpg, the cost of 70 miles of fuel is £14.30.

Obviously if you drive something more efficient on fuel then the cost of fuel would be less, makign even less worth the hassle, but if you drive a Pagani Zonda or such, then the fuel cost would be considerably more, but then I suspect you wouldn't have had to use a body shop in Wrexham either.

edited - must type and do my maths faster

Based on my mileage rate at work which is nearly 54p a mile (taking into consideration fuel, wear etc) I don't see why I couldn't claim £40 to be honest.
Especially now I have to go to the hassle of filling up on a Friday night at rush hour...
Maybe a little petty but if she hadn't hit me it wouldn't have been an issue

Depends on the car though, 70 miles is more like 25-30 quid in my car.

That rate is to cover the cost of your insurance too. What you've actually lost is 70 miles worth of fuel, about £15. So you'd have been filling up soon anyhow.
But, don't mind me. Claim for £40 if you think you're entitled.
Do let us know how you get on.
