I bet Cavendish would have been pretty happy with a bronze!

I think he would have settled for a bronze if his group had caught the remnants of the break after Vinokourov and Uran had crossed the line and won his medal sprinting out of that group. No way would he have been happy winning bronze in a full bunch sprint!

Anyone reaching the Games has achieved a BIG thing. Getting a medal says you are one of the top 3 people on the planet.
I've noticed a fair few of the atheletes (swimmers anyway) have the Olympic rings tattooed on them, something I can competely understand.

It's a chance for a few (womens hockey team at the moment) for their moment. Let us all enjoy it.

Actually, it tells you that they were in the top 3 in the Olympic final. Cavendish is definitely in the top 3 sprinters of all time and maybe number 1, but he didn't get a medal!

I know what you are getting at though. It's like the Lanterne Rouge in the Tour de France - last place, but it is a huge achievement to even get there, let alone finish.
