Nah I've already 'been there done that' with my Raleigh City. I saved the SA 3 speed and serviced it then had that and a Shimano dynahub laced on to 700c ally rims, that meant I had to fit shorter reach brake calipers* but I had a couple of Wienmann ones in the shed that were perfect. Took off the steel cottered crank and heaved that into the bin fitting an appropriate length square taper bottom shaft (from the shed) and a Stronglight crankset. New Aluminium handlebars and a Brooks (sprung) B67 completed the build.
* Meant I could dispense with the bits of twisted steel Raleigh laughingly called brake calipers fitted to all their cheap bikes including the 'Chopper'
