Where you DIDN'T get off.

Here's mine today: 30.9% which I think is my steepest (recorded) yet. The fact that Veloviewer finds that I am placed 4166th of all riders to do this damned hill is neither here nor there. I am chuffed to bits.

Oh to have the legs of a 35 year old again. This is the steepest that I know I've been up. Strava says a 42% max but I take that with a bit of salt, other sites say the same average 15.1% but the max is only 31%. I did that on a 39/53 and I'd love to do it again with a compact and larger cassette but the dead end road is unmaintained and you really need a dry fortnight which doesn't usually coincide with my occasional trips home.

The Beast at Coedy-Brenin would be my most steep climbs..i dont get any pleasure going up...but the downs are worth the effort on a mtb.
I'm envious of anyone who with stamina to fly up hills..i just cant do it..i dont think i could as a youngster even. Short burst and thats it
Its no good saying how steep the hill is without revealing your gearing (in gear inches)
the biggest hill I do on a regular basis is 400' in 0.9 miles (18% peak on bikehike) and I think that is probably my limit with 32.5 gear inches
It's no good revealing your gear inches because lets face it,anybody can type what they like on here and who's to know whether it's genuine Willy Waving or not?.......
I could have wrote 25% but didn't, I'm sure there is a lot of willy waving on forums but equally I'm sure most keep the exageration within limits of possibility. But I am genuinely interested in what gearing others are using to get up these monster hills. I don't think I could do steeper than in what I quoted above, but that is just down to my long gears, give me a 34 driving a 34 and I would definitely get up steeper - heck, with the right gearing I could pull a fully freighted artic.
Mine were on a 34/32 - which I believe is about 28 gear inches.

Except Winnats which was on my mountain bike with stupid low gears (but weighing about 17kg!).

Hmm...I'd question the Veloviewer "max gradients". I've climbed all four of those. Monsal Head maybe has something like 21.5% for a short stretch. The others have nothing like those gradients. Maybe it's a metre or two or maybe it's a mapping inconsistency

Having said that, the top three are all hard climbs

How many people on CC know or care about gear inches anyway? I don't.

And inches ffs, is it 1970 again?

Quite. I have no idea what my gear inches are. I know my lowest gear is 34/27 so if someone is talking about a 39 front ring, I can quickly work out that 31 rear gives the equivalent gearing. Nobody I know talks about gear inches, it's all about front/rear teeth
