showering at work

Just out of interest, how many people do this?

I use baby wipes and deoderant rather than the shower.

When I first started cycling to work, the builging that I worked in had a shower in every second toilet set and one at the end of every office floorplate.

I am still on the same site, but in a different office block that only has the showers on the office floorplate and not in the toilets.

These showers are often used as toilets. Yuck. Therefore I don't use them.

I think this is the most hygenic option.

Any thoughts on communal shower usage?

My building provides 1 shower on each floor. But then the company i work for has put showers in the space that they let from the company that owns the building. So we have a changing room, 4 showers and towels provided.

So i shower everyday. but if your worried about the hygiene of the shower, and your comfortable with using baby wipes then go for it.

There are alot of younger people in my building that think peeing in the shower is funny and people who cycle are weird.

I'm not sure I can cope with just baby wipes in the summer though. I might have to keep some flash with bleach spray in my desk drawer and give the shower a once over before I use it. Or perhaps wear some of those swimming socks for when you have verucas.

We got some weird people who leave their dirty underpants lying around on the floor in the changing room.. they don't last their long before they get scooped in the bin.

Ah, yes. Flip flops would be perfect. Thanks for that. Cheap and lightweight, just like me.

We have a "Shower Hog" who gets in to the shower about 07:30 and then stays ther until about 08:15 - 08:20.

By this stage there are about 5 of us trying to get showered and to work by 08:30

Short of unlocking the door and dragging him out there is no answer as he will not take the hint even when asked not to take so much time.

Shame really as it is a nice setup with changing room and lockers adjacent to the shower and space for wet gear.

We have 5 cubicles, each one has a shower, a private changing area, a hairdryer and a washbasin. I think there is an ironing board somewhere as well. We are pretty spoilt The main issues are wet floors and the odd bloke who forgets to rinse the sink after shaving.

There are 40+ cyclists at work (at least, there are 40 bike bays which get fully booked in summer so there must be at least 41 of us) so the wait can be a bit long, but I've never had to wait behind more than two people.

As i work in a smelly ,noisy, hot weld shop i just use a splash of deodorant as i will be sweating again soon anyway

We have no showers except at one site,out of five.
Its proving to be a big problem now we are working on bike to work scheme.
Most people ,quite rightly want changing facilities.

We don't have showers so for me it's a quick wipe with baby wipes whilst getting changed in the loo. No one's complained about me smelling yet.
The floor is often sopping wet though so I have to get changed balancing on my shoes which is fun.
Still at least when I asked if we could get a hook put up behind the door we got a row of 6 nails hammered in above the door frame, saves juggling everything on a single hook.

Showers for me, we have 4 and a communal changing area. Usually no problems getting showered as theres only 8 of on duty at any one time, and out of that there are 4 of us who regularly cycle in.

Im surprised reading this thread that so many have access to showers etc. But good to hear.

I have taken to wearing flip-flops now too. I now even clean the shower before I use it. Not the first time I have managed to catch a raging attack of athletes foot. There are some dirty buggers where I work. One particular morning I opened the shower door to find the remains of a turd on the floor - some of which the owner had tried to squash down the drainage hole. I almost threw up.

I used to shower but got sick of the time taken and the general dirtyness of the changing rooms.

Plus the showerhead had so much limescale it only would come out of a few jets which was a bit like being pelted with stones.

In ours it's not so the people that are dirty but the fact it's a portakabin which I reckon they can't be bothered to clean. You really don't want mouldy shower curtains and dirty cubicles.

Not sure what I am going to do in the summer. Maybe just stick to the baby wipes and cool down a bit.

My work has recently installed new showers, new bike standings with locks and lockers so i will start using them as soon as there finished
