Heavily modified 2025 Eastern Traildigger is done (Bar cleaning the ‘wax’ off the tyres) 🙄

Bought new at a steal of a price in the Black Friday sales; for the full 4130 Frame, Double wall rims. And not much else - and everything else pretty much got binned !

I’ve gone with Chrome / Polished everything else - Inc Volume Mad Dog bars, Haro Mesa Greywall tyres, Grey WTP pedals, Mafia Chrome cranks, Sunday stem, Tech 77 lever, KMC chain, Odyssey cable blah blah. Rides good👌

Even though this will 1000% be a rider - I just had to get some Helicopter tape under the belly / vulnerable areas…..

Hopefully next pics will be at a [Not very local] Pumptrack, where this will be used as designed 👍

Friday night fetling. It’s how I roll…….🙄

Swapped over to a CNC chainring in an effort to cute a persistent tight / loose spot in the chain. Made no difference. At least I have a satisfyingly expensive drive chain now though eh…..

And just a bit more colour co-ordination added via a WeThePeople vector cable tie…

So I’ve not posted ‘here’ for a while. But some time ago I did pre-order a 1 of 85, Chrome Plated 😍, Skyway 24” Cruiser BMX frame and fork kit with bars. Made in the USA - and after what feels like an eternity waiting: release day is now only 6 days away 😁

Once the F+F (Along with matching bars) and Wheels are posted: they can join everything else I’ve bought in the last few months. Inc every single nut, bolt, adapter, cable tie - even down to the colour co-ordinated decals going on the number plate / board !

***Skyway frames are USA made 🇺🇸 - so I’m going for a corresponding colour scheme as you might be able to tell 😉

First USA made frame, first Skyway TA, first 24” Cruiser. (First £2k+ build 😳) I’m really super hyped. And will be riding the sh1t out of this come Summer 🙏

That’s going to be an awesome build. I miss my old Haro Group 1 bmx.😢
I sold it 30 years ago to buy my first motorbike.

Thank you ! It’s my 10th build / bike since turning into a Born-again. BMX’er 🤣

I was never a racer BITD. Just had Freestyle bikes and did ramps and flatland.

Maybe that’s why I’m so excited for this one……because it’s outside of my normal scope per-se.

And yes ! I sold my DP Firebird at 16 to fund a Yamaha DT50-MX 😁

4 months with no musing, ramblings or otherwise from me......

So: Skyway 24" BMX. This should be about the 'best' BMX build i've done possibly. A true 'Big BMX' rider - to be comfortably sat upon and to ride down the Sea-front for an ice-cream on Sunny days etc. A Limited Edition old school (MY FAVE Chrome !) frame.....but with New School bearings / tech. And a host of top quality American parts. I've not exactly tallied up. But the parts will total up to well over £2k. For a single speed with no groupset, no hydraulic brakes, no Carbon frame etc - it gives you some ideas of the quality of all / the remaining parts.

But - for some reason i did....and to be fair still have 'lost interest'. Right after the final part arrived ! A case of the chase was more enjoyable than the catch ? But i should, must, need to build it up. I've had ALL the parts since Christmas. Perhaps a rideable machine as opposed to a box of bits will incite some excitement ! And what i have done is swapped some of my labour with one of the Staff at the LBS - so when i'm on holiday next week he can help me get headset and bearing, BB bearings, crank etc in and set and chain line sorted. So that the rest of the build should be plain-sailing for me to continue with. Progress should therefore begin this coming monday ^_^

The Carrera Subway daily-beater contunues to be my fave rider.....despite a garage full of much more exotic machinery. And the amount of miles i use it for means an amount of fettling is always required to keep tip-top and upto my lofty OCD standards. But that means its being ridden and used as intended. So i see that as a good thing !

And for the first time ever - i'm in the 'middle' of building a quality / lightweight set of wheels [Hope hubs, DT Swiss spokes. DT Swiss rims, lightweight discs, Titanium brake disc bolts, TPU tubes etc) for my light-weight Trek FX3 hybrid. Which is / will then become a "Race-bike" with flat bars. And at a reasonably accurate estimation - i should save approx 1.7kg on the wheel / tyre package going on compared to the set coming off and being replaced. Should be quite some noticeable difference. Some parts for that are here. Others arriving today. Hope Hubs ordered last week are going to be the hold-up i think at this stage......

Thanks for checking-in

I loved my Subway. Gave it to my brother as he needed a bike.
I do regret it as it was a well made bike with a fab ride.

Cheapest, heaviest, least desirable bike I own. And I absolutely love it. It does road, gravel and has done some pretty gnarly off-road with no complaints and in total comfort. Low value means I’m not worried taking or leaving anywhere and all that makes it a great experience for me 😁

Silver Hope Hubs (Wheels being made with these will be for my Trek Hybrid), light-weight brake discs for same; along with a pair of light-weight Goodyear tyres, 12 x Titanium brake disc bolts, TPU Tubes and spares - and some Kevlar reinforced rim tapes.

And……..looks like I’m now doing 2 wheel builds at the same time; seeing as I seem to have bought a pair of super-lightweight Hubs which I’m going to use for my Carrera Subway. These will be mated to some on-offer Mavic rims and Stainless DT Swiss spokes my LBS is ordering for me Monday.

Hubs are non logo’d, top-end OEM. And are just 235g for the rear / 103g for the front, I think (?) they have Ceramic bearings [Haven’t looked back at specs but are buttery smooth] and I even got a complete spare rear free-hub. Cheap too 👌

^^^Coupled with the Mavic / DT Swiss parts - I reckon these will be around £325 built up. Which I think is ace and should be another very noticeable wheel upgrade for the fleet…..

Meanwhile. Thought I’d spend some time building up a ‘larger’ Children’s bike 🙄

**The Skyway TA 24” build has begun

48 spline (Non Pinch) United V3 cranks were time consuming to get right. I’ve beaten a few problems today though 👌

Apart from ‘quick release’ part of the front caliper which will need removing as it fouls on the thread / nut of the Odyssey Clear compound brake pads. And the centre bolt is fractionally short. So a rear has been ordered.

Real happy with how it’s looking so far….😁
