I went skiing for a week in April, and I needed travel insurance. Knowing that the insurance sleezers would stiff me at every turn if I didn't declare "previous medical conditions", I declared all the facts and gave them some money. A month ago, they sent a letter asking me if my medical circumstances had changed, asking me to phone them. I took the trouble to do so and hung on their automated phone system for about ten minutes.
Suddenly, the up-beat music from the StaySure Insurance telephone waiting list queue became altogether more solemn. Somebody began to speak to me....StaySure Funeral Services, complete with cheesy organ pipes. I think they know more than my doctor does.

(Following on from my earlier posts in this thread ...)

I just had a phone call from my sister. We went through the usual catching-up with family gossip routine, and I told her about getting caught out in a storm on Saturday evening, and watching the Cragg Vale HC yesterday. Then ...

"You know that woman I am friendly with across the road from me? Her son is about the same age as you and he got blood clots so they put him on Warfarin about a week ago. Well, he was getting changed to go out when his wife noticed ..."

I interrupted her.

"Let me guess - His wife spotted a nasty-looking patch of black skin, and his GP said that it was due to Warfarin necrosis and sent him to A&E!"

My sister was stunned. The man had been told nothing about the risk of necrosis, and it was pure good luck that his wife had spotted the damaged skin which was somewhere non-obvious.

The listed possible side effects on some stuff I was taking were so numerous as to be meaningless.

Yes and in an 'Elf and Safe Tee' concious world they list everything that can possibly happen including your bum falling off. My packing for a weekend away was 1/3 clothing, 1/3 gadgets and 1/3 medicines. As I get older I find I'm 'living with/managing a variety of conditions which in the old days were lumped as 'getting on a bit'.

Still managing all of these health issues is better than the alternative.

Mass photoshoot here 27 Jun 2013. Can you see anyone you know! I'm in it, I'll just leave you working that one out.
I'll put the link up for the ride at home, if you want it?
Bah! Image removed!

The second one has gone *poof*

Being on a recumbant does that leave you with less scope to cover your modesty?

@Sara_H Just zoom in on screen a lot easier  or download it and send it to be enlarged to poster size

There can be unexpected side effects - Viagra was proposed as a treatment for angina; but, failed to achieve have an effect in clinical trials. However in feed back, the personal involved in clinical trials didn't want to stop the drug, which got them asking "why not?".
The rest as they say is history.

Thalidomide was prescribed as a sedative and anti-nausea drug, but we all now know about its horrific side effects.

Apparently, Thalidomide is now making a comeback as a treatment for leprosy. Unfortunately, the poor people taking it seem unaware of those side effects ...
