Hi all,

recently came into possession of a Simoncini ATB from a mate. Aside from the carrier, the dodgy mudguard and the somewhat exuberant colouring it is in fantastic condition with everything from gears to brakes to saddle being Campagnolo.

Can anyone shed any light on this bike, year manufactured, the colouring (other than it being an acquired taste !) and whether it was worth the £50 I paid him for it. Simoncini is somewhat illusive on the net !

They are indeed, and are not a bad maker... http://www.simoncinitelaibiciclette.com/menu.html

This bike probably hails from the brief period when Campagnolo went into mountain bike gruppos from 1989 to 1995:

1989: Euclid
1990: Euclid, Centaur, Olympus, Themis, Xenon (name later recycled for entry-level road gruppo)
1991: Euclid, Centaur, Olympus, Themis, Xenon
1992: Record O.R. (Off-Road), Icarus, Centaur
1993: Record O.R., Icarus, Centaur (name later used for mid-level road gruppo)
1994-5: Record O.R only (which was then cancelled)

Don't listen to jig-sore and Jakes dad (who are just guessing wildly!) - I would say you got a bargain vintage machine. Keep it in all its early 90s MTB glory, ride it off-road - rigid is in - and look after it. Oh and take the hideous rack and whale-tail combination!

yes OK, i was guessing wildly  but then i was going on the idea that no respectable bike company would use that paint scheme

mmm, i stand corrected, seems like an interesting find

Cheers guys, Rack and mudguard now gone! Am thinking I have done alright out of this deal as despite what is a colour scheme that let's say gets noticed (!) the bike is a pleasure to ride and I will keep my eye out on the net to see if i can eventually find something similar.

Cheers again.

Hi all,

after more research the bike has Euclid gruppo and the saddle here http://www.campyonly.com/reviews/electa.html. I'm still non the wiser with simoncini frame but now carrier and mudguard have gone i have had positive comments on the colour scheme and now with proper tyres it is my commuting buddy !

More knowledge on Simoncini would be appreciated !

Ttheir own website - which has not real historical info - doesn't have an English version yet. They are all traditionally-made steel frames though.

This guy was having his steel frame built by Simoncini - he has some pics of the factory and the owner, and h says they used to build frames under license for Colnago...

I believe the UK concession for Simoncini is held by Cycles Clements in Ledbury, Herefordshire - a little market town hiding at the foot of the Malvern Hills.

You'll find them on the web, I think.

As far as I know, it's strictly road bikes now.

In that corner of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire you see Simoncini farmes all over the place.
