Not me, I knew mine fitted already as I bought it from a reputable dealer
Well lucky you........Would you not consider Evans a reputable dealer ? Thats who I got my last but one Specialized from. It was ordered and paid for by phone, and all they wanted to know was how tall I was. On collection, it was wheeled out from the workshop onto the pavement, I was told to give it a ride down the street to ensure I was happy and that was all the 'fitting' I got !

From what you've just described, no I wouldn't, although to be fair, I'm not sure what else they could have done seeing as you ordered over the phone, perhaps next time you should go in store when you order?.

lol, that service was crap!

As for Evans, it varies store to store and staff member to staff member. Craig in Manchester Deansgate is/was(not seen him in there for a while) excellent. When I bought my 1st bike from them couple of years ago, he spent about an hour setting everything up including cleats on my shoes etc on a turbo trainer and I have barely had to alter a thing in 3 years.

yeah really depends on the store and member of staff. Bought my specialized from cycle surgery. Same as above, took my height and told me to cycle down the street. But saying that i know better now and would ask for more fitting before I left.

My dogma fitting took about 1hr with both computer and eye sighting from the shop tech. A correct bike fit has allowed me to rid myself of lower back pain after long hrs climbing seated. It's worth the time and money.

however when I bought my CAADX from Evans no attempt was even made to fit me. Luckily I had ridden the exact model 2 weeks before so knew it would fit with some minor adjustments.

I'm very poor on bike fit. My CX Team is too small for me, thanks to Halfords sizing technique (looking at me, looking at bike, saying 'this seems right' - I knew nothing back then). It's a 52cm whereas my Focus, which I got from the LBS who put a lot more effort into sizing is a 58cm.

Luckily, I don't experience any discomfort from the CX, so think I've got away with it somewhat - strange that I can get away with such an extreme range of sizes though!

I also use an awful technique for saddle height, which is simply 'as high as I can put the saddle whilst only just being ale o touch the floor without getting cramp when unclipping with one foot'. I know that I should set it properly and use the rule of 'if you need to touch the floor get out of the saddle', but when I've tried this in the past I've found it very difficult. Again, I get no discomfort using my current technique, so I see no reason to change it.

Bike fit done today at Pedal Precision at the National Cycling Centre.

Whether it is worth it depends on the riding you are doing, the riding you are aiming for, and if you know if you have any biomechanical issues. I have a couple of geometry problems and got a lot out of the fit, which did not just include the bike - it also included some light modification of my shoes, and diagnosis of a metatarsal oddity I never knew I had - but can see as plain as day now it's been pointed out.

Bike adjustments included the saddle height, pitch and forward position, handlebar pitch and brake lever position. Suggestion also made to switch the 110mm standard stem for a 100.

The bike is noticeably more comfortable, and the pedalling efficiency is also quite a bit better. I also got some posture advice for my back while riding, and an exercise for my IT band.

I am a sporty lunchtime blaster who does the odd sportive.

I know my road bike is too big for me. My seat post is almost as low as it goes!

I bought a cheap bike off the interwebs and didn't really know what I was doing.

The bike works and I can pedal it so I guess it will do till I upgrade in a year or two.
