The U20 and Womens team have both completed the Grand Slam tonight against Ireland, so we could have a grand slam of grand slams.

That would be some feat!

It's feels odd hoping England win tomorrow, though if we make an arse of things against Italy my Celtic sympathies will kick straight back in.
to my misfortune I seen some highlights of this nonsense game on the TV - Some of the Irish ones seemed to be wearing shoulder pads ! when did this 'i'm a bit delicate' bolloxs creep into the game, are they going to start copying those big fannies that play american football?
The padding is pretty light and has become common, and necessary, since the game went professional. The impacts at this level are absolutely huge, likewise in Gridiron.

You're disappointed to see the welfare of the players being considered?
is it protection or does it just allow them to hit harder thus encouraging other players to start wearing padding so they can hit as hard back, I would hate to see it eventually turn into Amercan football sort of gear.
A bit of both.

Unless the game fundamentally changes there's no way they'll end up wearing American football style kit.

The rules allow for padded head guard, shin pads and light weight shoulder padding. These all have to be IRB approved, you can't just put on any padding you want.
You can also wear toe capped boots and a gum shield.

The majority of players don't bother with most of this except the gum shield.

It is a bit like helmets in cricket, they are a sensible safety feature.

Final day of the tournament - the matches in this years incarnation have been consistently good - so 6hrs of Rugby to watch this afternoon - should be interesting - England have won the Championship but it is not a Slam dunk - so to speak  that they will beat Ireland - Ireland have shown in periods of some of the games that they still have quality - Wales have woken up and remembered what has made them a successful team in the past , however the French almost traditionally have their best match of the tournament on the last day when they have nothing to play for - Scotland - assuming that Englands rout of them last weekend has not crushed their confidence and their injury list permits should beat Italy quite easily
