Italy have a plan and England don't know how to counter it.

England not looking brilliant here. I expected a good 20 point lead at half time. I must take some of the blame as they are always rubbish when I watch them.

Mhmm expecting a 20 point lead and finding you are in deficit by a few. Doesn't make Wales performance against Italy look too bad now !

This rule the Ref has accepted about needing two people to form a ruck doesn't match with the laws?

16.1 Forming a ruck
(a) Where can a ruck take place. A ruck can take place only in the field of play.
(b) How can a ruck form. Players are on their feet. At least one player must be in physical contact with an opponent. The ball must be on the ground. If the ball is off the ground for any reason, the ruck is not formed.

It only states that one person needs to be in contact. Therefore the rule being played here is different to the laws of the game.

Well done Italy for trying to find an advantage, but I think it's illegal.

The pundits are as bamboozled as the team

Forza Italia

I'll be back at FT to endure your smug celebrations once you turn it around in the 2nd half...

"I'm a referee, not a coach."
That was most amusing

So, if the players have to ask the ref about the rules at half-time, what chance does the average punter have?
More embarrassing was that Hartley and Haskell were asking about the "rule" rather than the "law", pretty basic, eh what?
Even more disturbing was hearing England fans booing perfectly correct refereeing decisions - they can't all be from Leicester*, surely?

*Leicester fans are notoriously ignorant about the laws of rugby union.

They could have been booing the fact it was very cynical or the fact that like everyone else, including the players, they thought it was incorrectly interpreted.
Bearing in mind they don't have the benefit of a commentary, I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

But well done Italy they had England rattled for a while.
