Well if Ireland were going to turn up for one match, that one was it and they did. Not pretty but effective. Italy were dire this year.

They did manage to confuse the feck out of youse lot for a half...

Spot on. In truth, the results overall have rather flattered England. They only looked really convincing last week; other than that they've ground out less than convincing victories over dogged but largely uninspired opposition. More than one of their other games could easily have gone the other way. All in all they're probably deserved Champions, but today was always on the cards, and another Grand Slam would have been more than they currently deserve. Promising, but work to do I suspect before they're ready to, say, take on the All Blacks as credible equals rather than give-it-yer-best-shot hopefuls.

Largest losing margin in the Calcutta Cup ever and described as "useless" by our captain. I think your telescope is broken.

Anyway, we made hard work of it against Italy but got the bonus point which we just about deserved, Barnes continued to be a pernickity fud about scrums and gifted France a win and Ireland neatly skewered England. A good day overall.

If someone had said Scotland would win 3 games and come back with a record number of tries I'd have taken that, preferably without the beasting off England but there we go.

Technically, 'youse' becomes more difficult when Ireland play England but only technically. They'll take great comfort in the bloody minded way they've ended two winning runs and were always the team most likely too. I bet Sexton would have gone off in any other game but not that one.
