This may be a stupid question but I bought some SKS chromeplastic mudguards for my bike and I can’t work out if they will fit, everything I can find instructions or photos wise show the rears mounting to the side of the seat stay/hanger area but my bike seems to have the mounts on the rear of the seat stay as in my photo, do I need a specific type of guard to fit my bike?

A bit annoying, but a small angle bracket on each seat stay would help with fitment.

or similar.

What in the name of Thor's scewdriver is going on there! What model of bike?

You may be able to bend or twist the metal stay 90 degrees if you have a bench vice. That is probably more reliable than an additional angle bracket.
My front SKS stays take a detour around the brake. You can bend the metal.

What is the mounting point like at the seat stay and chain stay bridge area? Suggest you send photos.

Looks very similar to the setup on my Trek Domane - there were some inserts that screwed in that came with the frame and the mudguards attach to that. See below.
