sks raceblade guards

Barely any clearance really a few mm should do it. My only complaint is that the metal on the brackets under the brake calliper suffers with fatigue and then gives up usually mid ride. I hid my rear section behind a brick wall couldn't get it into my rucksack and went back and it was gone, gutted.

I used two sets last winter and so called spring, probably 3k+ miles just about to buy a new set still good VFM imo just to save not getting soaked just when the roads are wet but not raining. I have enough brackets now to change them every 1k so hopefully will just use one set.

Does anybody know how much clearance you need between the brake caliper and the tyre to get the SKS Raceblades in? I'm trying to decide between the Cruds and the Raceblades for my CAAD5.

Barely nothing as only a thin metal bracket must pass between the brake and the tyre, the guard itself is in two pieces and does not pass through the gap.

Ah that's what I thought from the pictures. It looks like the Cruds might need a bit more since the guard itself passes under the caliper, but the Raceblades don't go down as far as the cruds to protect the chainset/front derailleur it seems - has anyone noticed this as an issue?

This is their biggest failing. You can hack together a raceblade with a crud roadracer to get that bit covered, people are always breaking Cruds because they are flimsy pieces of plastic crap, just ask them if you can have the broken one and cut it up and rivet it to the raceblade! Best of both worlds.

must admit crud guards are flimsy as and the SKS look far more substantial but they defo need to come up with an idea for covering the chainset!

Get a broken set of cruds, drill the seat post section out - drill the raceblade out.

I know !! if i buy a set will be modding my rear crud to fit with them, i snapped my front crud hence in the market

I managed to bolt my rear crud to the bracket of the Raceblade and then further attached the crud with the cable tie it comes with. Overall a very firm mech protection, best of both worlds.

Sorry to hijack but is anyone aware of the possibility of swapping SKS Raceblade longs between bikes by having two sets of mounts? I’m on a budget and being able to swap the guards between the two bikes I'll be getting would be a big bonus as I'll use them primarily on one bike and I'm cautious of getting Crud MKII's because they seem to get a lot of criticism.

Yeah, I suppose that would be the issue. I doubt SKS would send a new set (they'd probably rather sell me a new set) and it would look a bit suspicious if I asked for a whole new mounting kit... Hmm.

Brilliant, I remember reading your post but I couldn't find it again. I think for that price they're worth a shot, they'll effectively half the price of the raceblades if you can use them on two bikes.
