Each to their own and all that but £1200 a year for TV channels seams a bit bonkers to me. You could buy a really nice bike for that sort of cash.

What happens if you already have a couple of nice bikes and do not want anymore.

Well....I cancelled

They offered everything half price but I want to see how my rabble cope without Sky TV. I'll get one of the streaming services to take the edge off but I'm sure I'll be happy with free-to-air as its this time of year BBC and ITV make an effort

Now......where else can I cut back

Who do you think is going to pay for the new football deal. Viewers and the backroom staff who have been made redundant or had shifts cut.
good grief, when I read the OP I thought £100 per year for SKY was a bit steep - it then transpires it is a £100 a month LOL anyone paying that to watch TV must be bonkers LOL
@User9609

The bonkers world we live in. It does amaze me how these drip, drip, drip business models have gained traction over the years.

Not only TV but I have been solicited over the last year or so for monthly payments on:

4G for iPad,

Printer cartridges,

Spotify Premium,

Netflix,

Sage Accounting software support,

And most recent I have just purchased a new HP laptop and HP will provide me with support (not repair) services for a monthly fee!

I have a Virgin package and had been paying it without really thinking about it for ages, a few weeks ago I rang them about getting one of the Tivo boxes instead of our old style none recording box.
They waived the normal £5 rental charge of those boxes, upgraded my broadband speed and modified my TV package as I wanted.

All in all a saving of around £20 per month :okay:

This year we have managed to drag down by some margin our Vodafone contracts, BT (landline and broadband) - we took £19 a month out of this plus got a new compact Youview box and new router (whatever the latest one is called) all FOC, car insurance (saved 40% by threatening to leave) and a 5 minute call to our home insurer that saved £237.

On the latter our renewal came in at £435 (always been about that amount but never really queried it).

I got two online quotes at £198 & £206. Phoned my insurer to cancel and they instantly reduced the premium to match the £198 with a guarantee that my premiums (subject to no claim) would not rise by more than inflation for 3 years. Max' time on phone 5 minutes.

Everything is worth an ask re reductions.

Well I could if I could be bothered think of about 1200 things I would spend £1200 on, but TV would not one of them.

That is the nice thing about choice, I must say I would not spend that on Sky, but luckily my life seems full without much tv.

We have Freeview, BT TV including free BT Sport and Netflix. I've no idea how many channels but I do know I've yet to find anything worth watching other than on BBC and occasionally ITV.

My wife watches American TV series on Netflix, all rubbish in my opinion. Storybrooke etc.

I've never heard anyone say "did you see such and such on Sky?"

Quite beyond me how people can spend £1200 on subscription TV. Murdoch is very good at extracting cash from folk.

I pay it because I like to watch football, that's what hikes my subs but it's cheaper and simpler to stay in and watch it at home while sitting in the exercise bike, doing the ironing or whatever, that going to a pub on my own and having to pay for drinks and quite possibly a meal

And it's my money, I can more than afford it, dont have to scrimp on anything else. However, I do play the game with retentions when needed to get some discount

The one thing I don't get is paying £50+ a month for a mobile contract on a deal for 2 years just to get a new phone every time
That does seem bonkers to me! I have a cheap contract which provides everything I need and get a nearly new iPhone every so often when the upgrade loonies jump for the new model. My brother buys the old one off me!

I did switch my gas and electric earlier this year. Car insurance is a bugger thanks to a couple of 'fault' claims in the last three years, can't get a better deal there right now

Glad you left the word 'free' out of that part of your sentence.

Does my head in when people tell me they are getting a free phone with a new contract or contract renewal.

Same as when people say their new iPhone was only £200 on contract instead of £600 and they are chuffed to bits.

The marketing of phones and attendant contracts is disingenuous to say the least.

No such thing as a free lunch.

PS: I know you know all this so I am not aiming my remarks at you but your post set me off on a train of thought.

Next ditch your mobile phone contract and go for a sim only deal.
