Why pay $ky £22 a month for the Entertainment Pack when you can get exactly the same package on Now TV over the net for less than half the price?
Get a Now TV box and the job is sorted. Plus you don't even need to bother with a subscription, just buy one of the passes from Argos when you need one - they're frequently on offer at below the advertised price too (currently £15 for a three month Entertainment pass - a fiver a month!)

Or spend a few quid more on a Now TV Smart box, plug your aerial in and you can pause and rewind Freeview channels too.

If you ditch Sky tv, then Netflix or amazon prime offer extensive programming for a fairly modest annual fee.

As per @AndyRM's suggestion, if you prefer Sky programming then you could have NowTV for the content alone or have the option to have broadband etc. through them. With content alone, you can come and go as you please on a monthly basis for around £8-£10 pm per pass. Separate passes for entertainment, films, and sports, with a cheaper one for kids. I tend to take out entertainment passes when a new season of Game of Thrones airs, binge on the box sets, not renew, then hibernate for the rest of the year.

Ditch Sky and go for the packages - I can live happily with just Netflix for £6 a month, Youtube for the documentaries I missed first time around and possibly Kodi for emergencies

I am currently lodging *parent* on a temporary basis *maybe 6 months* & there is only a basic NowTV box & the Super League RL season has started.

I really don't want to miss much more of it & could get it via NowTV but from reading it appears I won't be able to record games to watch later, this is a problem as I work shifts.

Is this correct & if so is there a solution ?

Hi @SteCenturion, never used the box for getting NowTV, just an android tablet and just for the entertainment channel so afraid I can't help with this one.

You pick up good Humax Freesat recorders for under £200 - example. [PS if you buy from Richer Sounds - pay 10% extra for the 6 year warranty and get your money back if you don't use it.]

If it is Sky Q you are ditching, it is very likely that you will need to change the LNB (about £15) on the dish before you can switch to normal Freesat. For older Sky+ that won’t be a problem.

What's the difference?
If I believe Sky, it's just a simple matter of swapping boxes to go from Sky+ to Sky Q.

We ditched Sky a few years ago, there broadband was really good, have not managed to match it with the two other providers we have used.
But a smart tv was a good buy, got all we want with freeview, but with catch up, we do pay extra for Netflix, But i am not into tv really.

Twin cable fitted on Sky+, between dish & box. Dish changed to accept both cables when fitted.

I thought that I had a 500 GB HDD but I just checked and it is in fact a 1 TB one. Still, after 2.5 years of use and having some shows still on there from 2 years ago, I have still only used 29% of the available space (85 recordings). 500 GB is plenty unless you want to store programmes indefinitely.

We just pay £30 a month for broadband, and of course extra for TV license. £30 Android box, install Kodi, look up on Youtube how to install a good repository (fairly straight forward).

If that's not for you, then I'd go Amazon Prime or Netflix, it's not too bad price wise (about £7/month?)
