Slick tyres for Hybrid bike recommendations?

Thought I'd do a bit of a pimp my ride for my long suffering Carrera Subway. The rims are stock and a bit wonky, the tyres are okay but something with really low rolling resistance would be much more fun. Any thoughts on upgrades for both?

The current tyres are 26 - 1.6. Would I be able to get away with slightly narrower tyres of the same diameter like these?

Or am I kind of wasting my time trying to get a faster ride through smoother tyres on this kind of bike?

Fat slicks are efficient and comfortable at moderate speed and only loose out to narrower slicks at higher speeds. I can go faster on rough surfaces such a cobbles on fatter slicks. Big Apple is my choice for 26" urban runabout use.

I roll with Schwalbe Marathon Supreme. They have a slight tread but doesnt seem to be on the centre line of the tyre. You might find them heavier than the Contis though and perhaps higher resistance.
