Slight clicking from rear wheel.

My rear wheel developed a slight but noticable clicking on my ride last night, I think I've found what the problem could be (although I'm open to suggestions if you think it may be something else) but I'm not sure whether cable ties or duck tape are going to be the best way to sort the issue. Pic below, thanks in advance for your help.

It did cross my mind, but I'd be a little concerned in case I managed to glue the inner tube to the tyre. As it is the tyre comes off very easily so puncture repairs will be a breeze, I wouldn't want to lose that advantage.

Just fit a tubular tyre and you're good to go.

The most worrying thing in this thread is that I have Mavic Aksiums on my commuter bike. OP: what the heck did that to your wheel?

As Adrian said it's down to wear from the brakes. It was my own fault in many respects, I had swapped the rear wheel to my old aksium to rule something out, I knew they were worn which was why I had replaced them 18 months ago, but I hadn't got round to swapping it back out. Keep an eye on your rims for dishing, or you should find your aksiums have got a wear indicator.

Rim wear happens very fast in wet gritty conditions; I once did that to a rim while riding in icy conditions - the brake block picked up a piece of grit and the brakes weren't working due to icing so I just grabbed the brake harder and harder, ignoring the horrible graunching sounds. In a few yards the grit machined a nice neat groove in the braking surface, which split open in the same way.

That was when I taught myself to replace a rim by taping the new alongside the old and transferring the spokes over.
