Hello forum users,
I just noticed, whilst swapping out wheels, that the QR skewer nuts were wobbling as I was loosening them. Turned out that the skewers were ever so slightly bent at the thread end. Visibly quite difficult to spot exactly where the bends are (took a photo... can't really tell), but noticeable wobble of the nuts when threading them tight / loose.
The skewers slide in/out of the wheel axles and drop outs no problem. I just checked the spare set of skewers and they were, too, slightly bent at the thread end (still slides nicely through the axles). I've had three wheelsets on these two sets of skewers.
So I did a quick google search about "slightly bent skewers." Acknowledging a "quick" search, bent skewers seem to associate with bent hollow axles. That's not the case with me. The current two wheelset axles are straight (DT Swiss P1800 / C1800 with end caps for QR). A number of veteran commenters seem to claim never experiencing bent QR skewers. I've got two sets in my mere 8 years of regular cycling...
Has anyone experienced slightly bent QR skewers at thread end (that still slide nicely through the axles), is this ok, and have I been fundamentally doing something wrong? Drop-out not deep enough to bite fully (Triban RC500)?
