hair as in hair - or do you mean when you get a shave? I can't imagine shavings blocking anything up, and I'm sure hair shouldn't be becoming detached when having a bath.
My wife & daughter have long hair, and the shower plughole is always blocking. You'd think they'd notice standing in two inches of water but I'm the only one who ever plunges away the blockage.

Edited to add: The bath is just as bad. Hair becomes detached when brushed.

Miss Goodbody is coming round tomorrow morning with a special implement which she says is guaranteed to clear my pipes of gunk :okay:

I think you misheard Mrs Goodbody when she talked about her loo being slow to flush. She was talking about adjusting the ball cock, and stopcock removal. .

Numatic 'George' wet vac tube over the plughole does the trick for us.
You can use an ordinary vac but put a mesh or an old thin cloth over the tube first. The bit of water in the U bend won't hurt your vac.

Sink and bath strainers cost a couple of quid and save a lot of grief.

Exactly - it's surprising how much hair gets caught, but just flush it down the loo and carry on. We did get a blockage once but now we have a strainer it's a thing of the past. Cheaper than any drain cleaner going.

Crochet hook... or long enough wire with small hook at end... long thin tweezers. Poke down plug hole, wiggle and pull up the most disgusting mess. Hair, soap, skin bits errrgh

I bought an air blaster from Aldi for £8. worked a treat on one sink and a shower.
On the other shower it blew the seals apart, found out that they had only ever been lightly tightened when fitted!

We have exactly the same problem with our bathroom sink. I know it will be blocked up with lots of hair- both my girls have long hair and this problem has been building over for a while now.
The place in the pipe it will be stuck at is pretty much unreachable for novices like me so I'm interested in the drain unblocker mentioned earlier.

Will the One Shot drain cleaner dissolve the hair?

I've never bothered with any drain cleaning chemicals... why bother when a kettle full of boiling water and a dollop of washing up liquid works most of the time? ...if not... plunger, boiling water, detergent will.

What is the fall like on the pipe?
If the fall is too small then the water will flow sloer and gunk has a better chance of sticking around.

I just use the wives hair removal cream. It's her bloody hair after all.
