Thanks for that. TBH I just get whatever's at the supermarket when I go. I'll look for an online seed supplier.
We used to get ourselves from a wholesaler locally which was attached to an equestration wholesaler. We then purchased 3 big bins in which to store the food to keep it away from mice. It was definitely cheaper to buy all in bulk, but as mentioned, get hulled sunflower seeds if you do, otherwise the mess is horrendous and you will regret the day you stayed feeding them. Also make sure if you are going away for any length of time that you arrange for someone to come in and continue feeding them for you because once you artificially increase the population you will need to reduce what you put out slowly.

I. Usually the cats sit at the bottom, looking up, but sometimes they sit on my neighbour's car roof,

I bet you're popular.

Neighbour's car used to sit on the roof of my car.

Apart from the sticky paw marks, it left lots of fine scratches.

Come car part exchange time, the dealer tells me: "It's basically in good order, Mr Rider, but there are a lot of scratches on the roof."

The cat means no harm, but the ruddy thing cost me a couple of hundred off the value of my car.

Neighbour, of course, not interested, although no doubt he wouldn't be happy if I damaged his property.

They have a cat too, as do other neighbours, there are at least 7 cats in the immediate vicinity, the bird feeder is a source of unlimited attraction for them all.

Sadly we are inundated with paraqueets here in Finchley so any food left out for the birds attracts swarms of these and the other birds get frightened away.
P.JPG This appeared in our garden earlier this year.............I got the photo is the local paper as it was a first for Warrington.
I believe thay are a real pain when they take hold............especially to fruit growers.

I have a bird table in the front garden, usually put out stale bread and supermarket bird seed. Nice to watch all the local birds stopping by for a bit of breakfast..

Try any garden centre.
Have made an order from eBay for now as my seed ran out earlier anyway.
Still happy to hear other suggestions though.
I have never managed to get a picture of our sparrowhawk, but have seen him taking small birds, comes low over the fence at great speed and will take a small bird in the blink of an eye. It's part of what its all about and I don't condemn him, its what he does and amazing to see.
One of my favourite sights ever, they float motionless then swoop down munchy mouse lovely tasty crunchy snack.

What I reckon is if there was a terminal life event and humans were wiped out by a plague the raptors would do very well indeed, they and wolves would take over, all domestic animals first.

See link for best bird food around, the guy has dedicated his life to it.
nothing more cheerfull than a well visited garden.
I buy cheap lard and just warm it to a liquid then pour it into a 100mm x100mm by 25mm flat bottomed dish and fill with seed from vine house farm leave it to set ,the result is quite amaizing..I also break bread into very small pieces and heat that in a wok and add sunflower oil or lard on cold days..again very popular.
feeders are filled with 3 varieties of seed to keep finches and sparrows happy.

imagine a world without birds..my area has so many red kites and buzzards now its fantastic,,never see one untill about 5yr 6yr ago and that was on a Leicestershire golf course..but now there all over east anglia..
only downside would be squirrel's..hmmm now there trouble with a T
