Smart Turbo Trainer with a folding bike - will it work?

I'm considering getting a turbo as life-stuff means I don't get much time to ride at the moment ... but space is a bit of an issue.

However, I do have a Dahon folder which I used for bike commuting in the before times - it's not doing much at the moment.

Are there any friction (i.e. cheaper) smart trainers that would work with a 16" wheel? I am fine with having to put a sodding great chainwheel on it to get the gearing up to the range that the turbo might expect. Using the folder would mean I could stick the whole lot in the cellar head out of everyone's way.

If you search on here you might find a thread from someone who wanted to put a Brompton on a trainer and ... IIRC ... succeeded.

Afraid I can't remember when or any other details

Edit. This is what I was remembering. Some info in there worth a look
