We should arrange a huge CC members ride to that pub say 50 or more ;)

Perhaps a better way would be to book the restaurant for 50 or more. Turn up after a 50 miler and be thrown out leaving the pub empty with food cooked and no punters. Might make them think a little more. I also hope the original "evictees" demanded their money back for the drinks, they had only had a couple of sups of, rather than try to down it in one. (Perhaps those withn beer could down it in one and throw up in the bar).

That's funny, I remember reading an article a while ago about a restaurant and it said that they could give away the food as all the real money came from the wine - maybe it's different for pubs.
Pubs and restaurants are indeed different and my experience is that pubs make money (in % margin terms) on food and soft drinks rather than pints.

Does anybody know why as a group, given half a chance, we are so reviled by others. Normally it's somebody writing in about red light jumpers or road tax, but whenever we come up in the media and whatever the context, there seems to be an endless parade of venom filled hatred spewed our way.
I don't know about you lot but I'm a very nice chap..... and my wife agrees.

Same reason some people sneer at runners, swimmers, people who use the gym, hikers, walkers, campers, sailors, re-enactors or anyone else who might practice a physically demanding, cheap, environmentally friendly hobby or escapist practice. Mostly jealousy with a dash of bitterness that they can't be bothered to drag their own oversized, under-exercised sacks of meat away from the latest trash television in order to actually experience the world.

cyclists happen to be a particularly easy target, because cycling is popular enough to be visible. If people saw more of the other groups they'd be much more common targets.

I'm not so sure, I've been near people wearing certain types of kit and it seem that a minimal effort level is enough to release mucho stored ponginess.

Altho' viking cyclist's comment has a ring of truth about it! So often when cycling abroad, complete strangers applaud my efforts to climb hills or whatever, rather than sneer or hurl abuse or worse from a passing car!

Most likely because they also cycle - there's a critical mass at which an activity becomes popular rather than unpopular among a population. In a lot of Europe this was reached long ago (from what I gather in some countries you're considered to have been neglected as a child if you don't know how to ride a bike), we're just lagging behind somewhat.

Part of the problem is most likely due to the general prosperity of the country - almost everyone owns a car, and they are considered by many to be status symbols. Whether this'll change as petrol prices grow, and people are hopefully encouraged to cycle on short trips, is up in the air but we can hope.

Personally I'm just dreaming of the day where people only take cars for trips over ten miles or so - everything else done by bike or foot.

If you look at the comments posted you will see that there are 3 positive comments. 2 look a little suspect as they have only made 1 comment each and those were made in response to negative comments made about The Lamb. The other has made only positive comments and the one on The Lamb was made in response to negative comments "Contrary to the previous reports". Friends of the landlord put up to this possibly  .

Go to the red shoot instead. Or the Alice Lilse, or the fighting cocks or.... there's tons of decent pubs dotted about the new forest. The Red Shoot often has loads of motor bikers around it. Most are very busy at peak times and are welcoming when you arrive off peak.

I knew I shouldn't have done it. Read the comments  .

I did a bit of googling and it seems Al Murray is right: “My gaff, my rules.” The landlord has a pretty much absolute right to refuse custom. But if you've already paid and received goods, presumably a contract has been agreed, and what can they do if you refused to leave anyway?

Anyone know?
