Hi there

I got caught in the rain the other day whilst out cycling and my shoes are a bit smelly. What can I use to get rid of the smell?

Do I just sprinkle Bicarbonate of Soda into the shoes?

Yes, they have completely dried out and I've had them in the sun.

As wot others have said, bicarb of soda and stuff with newspaper

I've washed smelly shoes in weak bleach or dettol with reasonable results

After a tour I usually need to wash mine to remove the smell- big tub of warm water and washing powder, leave them soaking in it for a few hours, give them plenty of squeezing and agitation in the water. Rinse in cold water then allow to dry.

Dry them completely, can use newspaper to aid this then sprinkle inside a good amount of bicarb of soda so it covers sole. I also give it a shake so entire inside gets a coating. Leave for 24 hrs, shake out bicarb powder and your shoes should be stink free. I've done this a couple of times and it works a treat.

If you have a dehumidifier, put shoes in the airflow if they get wet again. Dries them quickly and stops the damp smells.
