The island(unsure of correct term) near the lock gates into the Avon from the harbour have seen tides that were between 1-2ft below their level for the last couple of days, There also wasn't much difference between the bottom of the old railway bridge (that runs parallel to the Cumberland basin bridge) and the water beneath

Thanks for that. I'm curious. Do you know what the spring tide range is in the published Tide Tables? I thought that Cornwall's six metres was quite big in calm conditions.

Best to stay away from Newnham anyway, there are many severe flood warnings in place north and south of Gloucester. If I go to take a peek, it won't be in a regular car, and will probably see a lot of closed roads around that way.
