The island(unsure of correct term) near the lock gates into the Avon from the harbour have seen tides that were between 1-2ft below their level for the last couple of days, There also wasn't much difference between the bottom of the old railway bridge (that runs parallel to the Cumberland basin bridge) and the water beneath

apologies if this is rather Bristol centric, but I'm amazed as to how high the waters have been
Thanks for that. I'm curious. Do you know what the spring tide range is in the published Tide Tables? I thought that Cornwall's six metres was quite big in calm conditions.

Some rather stupid parents on footage on the TV news this evening, standing back and letting a small child run up close to a sea wall as huge waves were breaking over it. I could just imagine them gasping in horror if junior were knocked off his feet and swept out to sea ... :thumbsdown:

And they would blame the council or anyone they could (always someone elses fault) ,saying the barrier was inadequate to cover their stupidity.
