Where would I get a spoke key on a Sunday? I'm wanting to start ASAP  Halfords don't sell them any more and my LBS is shut.
You could use a small adjustable spanner. I have a 4" adjustable spanner as a keyring, very useful as it is a good quality one. You can get one when you get the seat bolt. It won't be easy with a spanner though so maybe best to leave it til you can get a Spokey from the LBS.

Get the right size though, as they do vary.

Or get one of the round ones with a few different sized sockets.

(Do you have a multitool already? Mine has a couple of tyre levers that clip on, and one of them has 2 or 3 spoke sockets cut into it. Not ideal for a big job, because its more fiddly, but if you have a multitool, check for any little square notches in it...._

I've found that those ones are often a slightly loose fit and only hold two flats on the nipple. They can round of a nipple more easily then a Spokey. The Spokey is much more accurately sized and grips the nipple on three sides and so tends not to damage them.

Do you think it would be worth cycling out to EvansCycles to buy a spoke tool?

I'd walk out to somewhere to get a bolt for the saddle first or you could end up doing a Jackie Chan (from 1:15 ).:giggle:

If you want to spend the day fettling your bike then yes, it would be a good start. Do read up on it though as you don't want to make the wheels worse. Also, as you will have your bike with you, you will be able to get the right size of spoke key. Check the fit on a few spokes though as sometimes the nipples vary a little in size.

Ouch, that looks painful!

Where's the best place to get one of these bolts?

Evan's might have one.:giggle:

Ummm, don't know about where you are. You could do with a hardware shop really, or nick a bolt off something else for the time being. You can use a B&Q bolt but it will stretch and then break, maybe on first tightening.

I know this might sound a bit expensive but one of the first upgrades that I would do is replace that seat post with one with a built in saddle clamp. My last one cost me about £30. It will make adjusting the saddle a lot easier and being aluminium will not rust away at a moments notice.

Jazloc, I suggested to you in another thread to take your bike to the lbs in the barrows market, they trued my colleague's wheel for a fiver.
Also, for bits and pieces, go to the bike recycle place in the gorbals, near the new flats on the river clyde, back of the mosque, just ask a local. They are opened monday to friday 10 to 4, they have lots of bikes recycled from the community. There you can also work on your bike. You only pay a donation, what you can afford.

I was tightening up the nut on my saddle after adjusting it when...

No idea how this happened, but the screw snapped into 2 pieces.

You did better than I did, the one I broke a few years ago I broke whilst riding the bike, fortunately I wasn't to far from home. slightly different set up from yours, they put a hardened steel allen screw into an aluminium nut sat on top of a plate on top of the saddle rails, silly idea.

You're gonna have to show me where that is, I don't know much about Glasgow
