I don't know about Yorkshiremen , but I know it's really a myth about Scotland.

I've stayed with friends in Edinburgh, and they and their friends were all very generous.

I've also stayed for work in Glasgow, Balloch, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Dunfirmline, Dundee, Falkirk, Montrose, and Kirkcudbright - I've also stopped in the hotel which was used for filming The Wicker Man - and every time I've been treated very well.

I always enjoy my trips up there, apart from the actual job of course.

Not sure "mascot" is the correct word. "Symbol" is a bit boring maybe, but it does at least lend it gravitas whereas mascot brings to mind some sort of stuffed toy or someone running around the Millennium Stadium wearing a dragon costume.

My father in law spent his working life on the payroll for BT. The area he covered included the fens, when they had to knock on doors in the fens the 6.5ft black dude he worked with used to scare the bejebus out elderly householders just by walking down the street. Sad but true.
