-5 in York-ish at 8 o'clock, but no snow today. Main roads gritted, so no problem for me. Clear sunshine all the way, too!

It's cold, but it's dry, so even where there's no salt, it's not too icy round here.

Know what you mean about the ears. Must get a hat that covers 'em.

When i got to work this morning and was getting changed i could not take my socks off as the pain going through my two big toes was awful it was nearly bringing me too tears, when i finally got them off the big toes on either foot where swollen and bright red.

No bike today as I brought in my week's supplies (grapes, bananas, new desk calendar, bottle of diluting juice, towels etc). It gave me a chance to observe the conditions from the bus; whilst the main roads look pretty much OK if you stay over 1m away from the kerbs, the side-streets were pretty deadly-looking and the off-road paths were iced-over.

I need to find myself an alternative route to work that stays on main roads; I think I've found one but I'd like to check it out during daylight rather than attempt it for the first time at 6am in the dark !

No, I was told I wasn’t cycling this morning. I came off in 2002 and broke three ribs, I’d already been told by Mrs ArDee that it was “too cold” to cycle and hence didn’t get any sympathy. So I know my place when I’m now told it’s too cold to cycle.

Also had to be in at 06:00 for teleconference with Aus and it was -6 deg C, when I left home at 05:30, so would probably have chickened out anyway.

Not sure how cold it was, but I did a 14 mile run this morning and thought my ears were being cut off with the cold wind!

Heck that was cold. Just about defrosted now.

Aaarrgh!! The ears, the ears!! Having been caught out with really cold ears in the last cold snap before Christmas, I wore a balaclava today. All nice and toasty, so much so that I decided I didn't need to put it back on after having a shower at the Leisure Centre up the road. WRONG. Despite it being less than a mile from there to work, all downhill, my ears felt like they were going to drop off when I arrived.

My deepest sympathy to anyone that went any distance with exposed ears.

First day I can remember - literally, for years - that felt really, really cold. Usually even when it's cold, by the time I've been going hard for 10 minutes I warm up ok, but this morning I stayed cold all the way in. And my index fingers - ouch. Still, quick shower and I was fine. It's still arctic outside now, but this morning...wow.

Yep, both yesterday and today... commute in all weathers, yesterday morning in South East London was very bad, mini blizzard at about 9am...
My water bottle keeps freezing on the journey's.

I chickened out yesterday (slush + manhole cover + bike = A&E dept). Rode in today. All fine apart from cold toes. Went out and bought overshoes at lunchtime so tomorrow seems to be on.

-5 here as well... ride was cold but I was ok once I warmed up, and the ice was in small and easily avoidable patches (except Walton bridge where the cycle path is a layer of snow on top of a sheet of ice...)

Off to the LBS to buy a set of booties to keep my feet warm, I think

-7 in middlesbrough and i can categorically say, i have never ever ridden in colder weather than that. I was absolutley freezing by the time i got to work, my boss and the lads at work could not believe I had commuted by bike this morning.

Don't forget the windchill factor either, I would say the windchill factor probably brought the temperature on my commute down to -12 at least.

When i arrived at work my yellow jacket, trousers and boots had a layer of frost on them.

All was well after 10-15 minutes, I would say that if you rode to work this morning you could ride in any weather in Great Britain.

Well done if you braved it.

I thought there was a flamethrower in use by Biggin Hill airport - when I took miniMikey to school there was shimmering of the air, and a smell of gas. There was traffic occupying my attention so I didn't have time to look towards the runway as I went past.

Turned out to be a major gas leak, they closed the road all day. Oops!
