Still avoiding it, though it didnt look too bad today, checked the showers when I got to work to see if there were functioning despite being in the car and no, frozen solid, no water even though it was reasonably warm in there.

Might go for it tomorrow, i think the Christmas break has made me a bit soft, that and the terrifying icy ride in I had last time it was cold, Land Rover sliding towards me, nearly falling off whilst having a car behind me, that kind of thing !

Didn't realy freeze up here in lancashire, but the already cold ground froze the rain in the early hours. Couldn't see the ice and bang three times down!;)

Well it was my first day back... and it was cold:cold: - I wore tights, trousers, socks, extra socks, vest, long sleeved t-shirt, merino baselayer, merino zip up layer, fleece, coat, fleecy buff around neck, scarf, buff on head, helmet, 2 pairs of gloves. And I was just about right... occasionally cold but no loss of circulation. (I probably look like Michelin man though:biggrin:).

I never, ever, ever ride with out gloves. Mind you there are a number of basic things a lot of cyclist do that suprise me. No helmets, dressed in black with no lights at night. I could go on
Good to see that the weather is picking up though.

The bold bit is the only thing you wrote that has any validity. The other two points are just religeon.

My commute is great. I've only once encountered slippery icy conditions in 20 years (when an earlier snowfall froze and was covered with some fresh snow). Every other commute the road conditions have been fine, even if i've had icicles on my face after. Guess it helps that my usual commute is almost all bus route so I expect it gets a gritting.

It's warmer now, I was overdressed this morning.

I wear warm gloves but usually find waterproof gloves to warm if that makes sense, I suspect that for oodles of money I could resolve this, but I tend to just wear fingerless sailing gloves in the wet. Layers are the key though for the body, then one can be removed if to hot, I find long johns make my legs to hot in all but sub zero conditions, i.e. below -5, I wear my overshoes in the cold as they keep my feet warm without the bulk of stupidly thick socks, thick socks make my feet cramp up when cycling for some reason. I have a wooly hat that covers my ears, no helmet.

As a note on the dark clothing thing, I nearly ran a ped down last night, totally black clothing, shoes etc. on the roadside in an unlit section, just saw them at the last moment, I do not know who got the biggest fright, me or them.
